The most common cause of injury in football are collisions between two players which result in an impact to the lower leg area. Force exerted by the leg of the tackling player creates a bending moment that causes ligament tears and fractures. Crashdefender’s studs retract on impact from a tackle, minimising forces in the lower leg and decreasing the likelihood of an injury.

Crashdefender is an adaptable football shoe. It is equipped with pressure sensors inbuilt into the shoe walls and retractable studs. When pressure from an opponent’s foot is detected by the sensors during a badly peformed tackle, the studs retract, allowing the foot to be slid in the direction of the tackle, minimising forces in the lower leg and thus decreasing the likelihood of an injury.
The height of the studs can be changed by the user, allowing them to adjust to the pitch conditions and find the optimal grip.
